FlyBoys vs Futsal Crew

Good  evening/morning/afternoon ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the flyboys match report centre, my name is Azman and I will be your reporter attempting to guide you through the events that unfolded on the 26th Oct 09.
First I woke up at 10:15am, then had breakfast, coco crunch with a little milk then I brush my teeth .... Okay fast forward to 4:15pm later that day. I arrived at Padang Royal Brunei to witness a handful of flyboyzz accumulating at the main stand, glancing over to the away side and the opposition seemed all geared up and ready in their brand-spanking-new kits. It was the conflict of all conflicts, the long time ancient struggle between Flight deck and cabin. Put us together and we form a Flight Crew.. but apart it becomes FLYBOYS vs FUTSAL CREW!!
Approaching kick off time and our numbers swelled quickly as the remaining flyboys rode up in their fancy pancy cars and carefully reverse parked into their spaces. It was a good turnout as the many Flyboys superstarz were present. Hj. Effendy and Amir read out the team selection :
GK : Hj.Daud
CB : Nasrul, Hj.Effendy
RB : Juju aka Julian aka Julie
LB : Hendra
CM : Hafiizh, Jiri
RM : Clem
LM : Shukri
ST : Amir, Sofian
A strong line up and could even afford to have a star-studded bench, with Azmi, Syazwi, Ismail, Zul-Fadli and myself. Zul-Amali also  volunteered as technical coach/camera-boy on the touchline.
Ref Roslan blew the whistle and the battle commenced.  excellent start by the cockpit crew as we were retaining possession in good fashion, CBs' Nasrul and Effendy taking turns sweeping up thru the middle of the park while Hendra and Juju provided good support play to wingers Shukri and Clem. it didnt take long for us to find the opening and it came from a persistent Amir who was determined to follow the ball into the back of the net, denied once, twice by the goalie, but not a third and 1-0 the score was.
Barely a few moments later  and something happened in the penalty box resulting in a penalty award for flyboys. The big question was who would take it? memories flashback to last season (before ramadhan break) when flyboys wasted opportunities from the pen spot, a certain right back comes to mind..  YOU know who u are Juju!! nevertheless, a fearless Hj.Effendy stepped confidently up, he winked at the goalie and puckered his lips into a flying kiss, then one second later the goalie was picking the ball out of the back of his net  as he was deceived by Hj.Effendy's strange facial expressions. 2-0!!
Time for some changes, Sofian departed for Ismail, and a beaten up looking Shukri came off as his 360 + 720 degrees zidane-esque spins drove the opposition into a tackling fenzy towards him. I stepped in his place taking up CB with Nasrul. Futsal Crew took shots at goal but Hj.Daud barely had to break a sweat gathering the ball calmly. On the edge of the first half Flyboys made it a treble as Ismail raced onto a clever ball from midfield and in a one-v-one he calmly chipped the goalie to chalk himself onto the scoreboard.
Halftime came and Flyboys numbers were again replenished with the arrival of Alan Rosberg and Simon as well as Rosli and Azri who came to give support.
2nd half team :
Goalscorer Hj.Effendy decided to have a rest 2nd half but at the same time wanted to stand between the goal posts wearing gloves, while Azmi teamed up with me at CB, Nasrul moved into CM with Jiri, Alan RM, Ismail LM, and Simon partnered Zul-fadli up top.
Futsal Crew with their pride hurt restarted the match strongly, far too strongly tho when one of them decided to write his name into my shin using his adidas studs. Fortunately no major damage was done apart from an unpleasant stinging feeling in my leg. However the most incredible tackle was made by someone on the flyboys side who tackled....wait for it.....someone else on the flyboys side. Yes, it was the clash of the titans, the skies open up as the earth tremored and shock waves reverberated throughout the pitch when Azmi tackled Hendra. Azmi came out unscathed but Hendra needed some treatment and rest bite after being caught on the wrong side of a man-sandwich between a couple of cabin crew attackers and teammate Azmi.
In the midst of all that human carnage we actually added to our scoreline when a flyboys midfielder latched onto one of my skywards canon ball clearances and released pacy winger Ismail to come running down the left flank and curling his effort in from an acute angle. It was a masterclass of counter attacking football reminiscent of some weird looking skinny french guy named Ngok or something.
But the scoring wasnt over as we broke again down the leftside and the cross put in fell into the path of Sofian who cooly released his dipping effort from the egde of the pen box nestling the ball into bottom left corner of the goal. 5-0 it was and cabin crew could not find a way back.
The match was supposed to be chance for revenge for the Crew, but turned out to be a humbling defeat at the hands of Flyboys' best performance of the season so far without the help of any beach balls.
Man-Of-The-Match : every Flyboy who played  in the match, as we were all soooo good we even had to tackle each other to give them a chance!!

Apologies to any offences and miss-outs in reporting, good luck with the next match guys.

FlyBoys VS RBA REJAX

Match Report

Flyboys vs RBA Rejax

Wembley Stadium 5 p.m. Sunday 18 October 2009

Once again the glorious Flyboys, complete with their army of loyal fans crowded into Wembley Stadium to do battle with their arch enemy, the Evil Empire that is RBA Rejax.
Coach Amir and Captain Hj Effendy had decided on a special plan for the team squad – if you showed up, you played. With a degree of cunning rarely seen in Brunei football, Hj Effendy decided to confuse both RBA Rejax and Flyboys by putting a complete novice in goal, stoutly supported by 4 defenders. This was surprising enough, but when the team took positions for the opening whistle, Flyboys only had one mid field player – Jerry. The rest were all goal hungry strikers just waiting to pounce.
So the starting line up was:

Hj Effendy

(17) Zul Amali (21) Shukriman (39) Hafizh (4) Julian

(25) Jerry

(11) Giggs (7) Aiman (55) Syazwi (26) Zulfadli (?)Ismail

The Ref blew his whistle to start the Titanic struggle. Flyboys were away to fantastic start with a hungry, fit strike force laying siege to the Rejax goal. No more were Flyboys a group who resorted to the boring long lob for some poor exhausted guy to chase. This time, Flyboys were stringing together low accurate passes in close play that clearly gave them the upper hand. Rejax were definitely on the back foot, with many minutes ticking by with the ball kept firmly in Rejax’s half of the pitch. Short, sharp, accurate passing, running off the ball for each other and creative play were the hallmark of Flyboys in the first half.

While all this was going on, Flyboys novice goalie was signing autographs and complaining of a sore back, a sore leg, a bad roster and several other things. This was a good thing because at least the ball was down the other end of the pitch and at least Hj Effendy hadn’t fallen asleep.
Despite the attacking nature of Flyboy’s play, Rejax were always capable of deathly counter attacks, and several times, the fast legs and determined tackling of Julian, Shukriman and Zul Amali coupled with the solid blocking play of Hafizh to thwart their efforts.

Several of the least memorable parts of the first half were when Amir forgot how to do a Throw In and Syazwi forgot the Off-Side rule.
Both feet on the ground Amir. Not one foot on the ground with the other in the air like a reject from the ballet company. Both feet on the ground.
Syazwi, next time we fly together, we are going to use the time in the cruise to make sure you understand the Offside rule, and the necessity of getting back on side. Remember to bring your boots to the Flight Deck.
Anyway, despite several shots at goal, the Ref blew the whistle for half time with the score at nil all.

Half time saw some clever tactical moves made by Flyboys. Amir came off and was replaced by Cabin Crew Kairal or Hairal – I never learned which. This was very important because it meant that Amir could take a break and monitor the game from the touchline while Hj Effendy could monitor the game from the goal. Monitoring the game from both on and off the pitch – that’s clever tactics for you.

All this cleverness however came to nothing because we were slow to start, while Rejax leapt at Flyboys from the start of the second half.
They had cunningly replaced their strikeforce with some very fast players who took advantage of our defenders weariness.
At the 52nd minute point, Rejax made a half hearted attack that would have come to nothing in the first half when Flyboys defence was fresh. But now our defenders were tired and half a pace behind the play. This gave Rejax the space they needed and a low shot from the right side of the penalty area left Hj Effendy completely wrong footed, and the ball went into the net in the far corner. It wasn’t exactly against the run of play, but it was definitely more than Rejax deserved. Regardless, the score was now
Rejax 1 : Flyboys 0

Eleven minutes later, Rejax scored a brilliant goal. The right winger put a searching ball across to the left wing who sprinted onto it, ran at the goal, composed himself and blasted the ball into the net from just inside the Penalty Area. Hj Effendy had no chance.
Rejax 2 : Flyboys 0

At this point the stadium started emptying. The masses of Rejax supporters, confident of the victory, left early to begin celebrating. The less loyal Flyboy supporters left to go home and have a good cry.
The fans who stayed were rewarded with a come back that will go in the record books.

By now the Rejax defence were relaxed and confident of victory, while Flyboys finally got into gear and realised they were playing for pride and glory. The defence started merging with the attackers and several fantastic runs by Julian and Zul Amali down the left wing were kept out by pure dumb luck.
But luck never lasts for ever, and eventually Flyboys got their reward. Yet another raid down the left wing resulted in Hafizh in the Penalty Area with both time and space. In the 63rd minute of play he composed himself and placed the ball firmly into the back of the net from just to the left of the goal centre. GOAL!!!!!!!
Rejax 2 : Flyboys 1

Flyboys fans smelled blood and wanted more from their strikers. The cheering reached a crescendo as Flyboys, now firmly in command peppered the goal from both long and short range.
Rejax didn’t know how to respond to the increase in application from the Flyboys and resorted to desperate, last minute defending. That was never going to be successful enough for them to survive to the final whistle.
Eventually in the 73rd minute of play the ball went to our half time Cabin Crew Substitute Khairal.
He was about 5 meters out side the Penalty Area just to the right of centre.
He took aim.
He struck
The ball flew
The goalie dived
The net bulged
A brilliant goal from long range in to the top far corner of the goal.
What a little beauty !!!!!!
The female supporters were screaming with delight and the security staff had to forcibly stop them from running on the field to join the celebrations.
Rejax 2 : Flyboys 2

The final minutes of the game were desperate. Flyboys wanted a winner while Rejax desperate to hang on to the draw. The men on both sides gave their all in the struggle for glory.
But then the Ref blew the whistle for the last time.

Flyboys came off the field like champions, Rejax came off looking like people who had just escaped defeat by the tiniest of margins.
The scoreline said “2 - 2 : Draw”
Those who were there knew that in this encounter, Flyboys were the champions.

Flyboys 2 - RBA Finance 1

The month long fasting break and two weeks of RAYA is long gone now, the aftermath of those whom went to a lot of open houses hopefully won’t have any effects on the pitch. Our second match of the new season saw Flyboys play against the RBA Finance. The day was a Monday, a blistering hot Monday I must add, Flyboys in yellow, Finance in red. Flyboys were dominating the finance team even before the start of the match with our numbers, fourteen sweaty yellow players to a five in red.
Flyboys with a lot of time to kick the ball around, have some laughs, introducing our selves in fear the long break led to someone’s name being forgotten, see two monkeys chase the ball before Julian lead the warm ups with beautiful leg stretching positions.

Hj Effendy gives a nice short speech and gives the formation as follows:

In the gloves : Zulafiq
The Defence : Nathaniel (rb) Azmi & Azman (cb) Julian (lb)
The Midfield : Aiman (rw) Hj Effendy & Hendra (cm) Ismail (lw)
The Strikers : Kenny & Amir

The flyboys subs Allan, Zulamali, Zulkhair and Aslam saw them selves playing the first half of the game with only they were on loan ($50/min each) to the opposition to help make up their numbers. Woohoo means we get to get the match started, downside no subs for those who planed to play for 4-5mins =P

It’s a late kick off, but the boys in yellow apply the pressure at the blow of the whistle, and perhaps it was much easier in doing so due to the finance team despite having our subs were still short of three players. It was a pretty fast paced game five minutes into the games which saw great spinning god knows what moves their called by Amir to trick the defenders and unleash a beautiful simple pass to Kenny whom slotted the first goal of the game but that’s when the blistering hot weather and all the extra weight gained during the festive season came to haunt both teams. Eight minutes after the first goal by Kenny we got to see another one by the tall striking partner of Amir yet again. Fifteen minutes into the games and a striker broke pass the flyboys defenders, and unleashed a fast low ball pass Zulafiq and into the net.

After conceding, Zulafiq played extremely well and took care of all the shots on goal, Azmi & Azman made sure any long balls towards the middle was taken care of with the good support of their fellow defenders Nathaniel and Julian whom were fast on the ball if a player was to break free and played good passes up field. Hendra played a like Masherano in the centre of the field alongside Hj Effendy who played extremely well to provide Gerrard like passing. Aiman and Ismail played fast paced winger like action when they weren’t so breatheless, got some shots on goal unfortunately were denied by the Finance goalie. Kenny on the other hand was happily attacking the goal of the Finance goalie in search of a hat trick. Last but not least Amir was to dizzy to watch with his ballet movement twisting and turning around when ever he had the chance to do so. Allan, Zulamali, Zulkhair and Aslam played well for the Finance team during the first half and hopefully the Finance team were glad to have them.

After the halftime break Allan, Zulkhair and Aslam returned to the flyboys lineup from their first half loan, and flyboys saw everyone play except Ismail and Zulamali who where on the sidelines as subs. The second half didn’t last long though, time waits for no men and the game had to be ended in five-ten minutes of the start of the second half due to respect for the main religion of Brunei. Which is most likely a good thing cause the finance team were pressing hard on flyboys and came really close to scoring a couple of occasions during the second half. All in all was a good game we had fun, no intense tackles were committed, no players were injured.

Lastly sorry if got any of the info wrong or if this report was to boring to read, ill just blame my lovely 360 front flip and landing headfirst during the first game of our new season against the cabin crew.

Ismail xoxo
